Final Assembly & Prizegiving January 5, 2009

It was our final day at school. Our class stayed in and didn’t do much except for talk and do Su Do Ku puzzles. After a long wait it was finally 11:00am, time for everyone to enter the hall and say goodbye to the Year 8’s. Firstly we had the Opening Karakia done by Tyrone. Then the official party walked up onto the stage to be seated. We then began our final assembly and prizegiving for 2008. Firstly we started off with the class awards for academic excellence. We then had the tech arts excellence awards which were given out for Science, Food, Soft Materials(Sewing), Hard Materials (Woodwork/Design) and Music. Then we came to the main awards. Firstly we had the Maori awards which were given out to Rangi and someone else but I don’t remember who. Then we had the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year awards. The sportswoman of the year award went to Olivia and the sportsman of the year award went to Patrick. Then we had the Academic Dux award. This is an award for the pupil who achieves the highest results in all areas of school out of the entire school. This award was given out to Holly from my class. We then had the Principal’s Award given out. The Principal’s Award is for general excellence as well as the kindest and friendliest person in the whole school. This great award was given out to my good friend Sarah. Lastly we all sang our school goodbye song. Then at the end we all went back to say our goodbyes to our old friends. As I predicted in the end I cried. It was such a great school that I just didn’t want to leave. But life goes on and that’s the way it is. I was very sad when I arrived home. The fact that I had to move onto College didn’t make me feel well. But tough. Everyone has to move on.
I would like to say congratulations to everyone who received an award. Even if they didn’t. Congratulations to everyone for their two years at Te Awamutu Intermediate. I hope you have all had fun. Good luck to all the Year 8’s who will now be Year 9’s at College. I will miss you all!
Yr8 Ball!!! December 29, 2008

On Tuesday the 16th of December we went to school in the morning as usual. All the year 8’s were very excited because that was the night of the ball! To some it seemed as if it was daaaaaaaaaaays away. They just couldn’t wait. When the 3 ‘o’ clock bell went everyone raced off home after talking about their dresses and how they were going to do their hair. Finally the time had arrived. The ball was to start at 7:30pm but most people were arriving at about 7:00pm to get photos taken with their friends. Then everyone entered the hall. It was dark but beautiful inside. The theme for this year’s ball was ‘The Secret Garden’. In the entrance of the hall there were butterflies and insects of all types with all the year 8’s names on them. Then in the corner by the door ahead there was a tiny pool with a waterfall type of thing in it. Around it there were rocks and grass and all this garden type of stuff. Inside the hall on the stage and on the walls, it was packed with decorations. On the stage there were two huge Christmas trees and then lots and lots of garden type of things. In the middle there was a fake lady and a man sitting on a chair facing each other. It was kind of funny the way they looked I guess. It was sparkly everywhere. There was tinsel along with many other things all over the place.
A few minutes later we were all asked to be seated. Then we had the first dance where the girls had to ask. I don’t exactly remember what order we had the dances in but I’ll name some of them for you. There is the waltz, the maxina, the three step, the valeta, the gay gordon, and the samba with many more others. We were finally half way through our night. At that time we all went outside for supper. There was a range of things for everyone to eat. Lollies, which we ate a lot of, Chocolate Eclairs, Pizza, Sausages and Sausage rolls just to name a few of what we had. We also got drinks along with the food.
It was then time for everyone to get back into the hall in time for the next dance. In between dances there would be draws where prizes were given out such as money. Anyway we kept dancing and dancing until the last two dances which were the waltz. This was where children could ask their parents, sisters, brothers or any family member to dance. After the two last dances we all went back to our seats. Then we got to go back home to get ready for Top Team the next morning. Everyone was tired that day. Well all of the year 8’s anyway. On the night of the ball I basically danced with Josh and Mitchell the entire time but basically Josh. It was pretty weird because we don’t always choose each other at social dance. Anyway I forgot to mention something. I have to say, everyone looked stunning in their great dresses! And I am sure we all had lots of fun. The night of the ball will most definitely be a treasured memory for me. Hopefully the ball is as good as it was this year in 2009 for the future year 8’s.
Rainbow’s End December 1, 2008

Last week on Tuesday, me and 22 other students went on a trip to Rainbow’s end. Us House Captains and Class Councillors were rewarded for all our hard work throughout the year.
We all had to be at school by 8:00am as we were going to leave at 8:15am. After a long wait we finally left. It took us nearly 2 hours to get there! Boy were we tired! On the way there my friend Jamie and I found a lost cellphone, so we handed it into Mr McCabe. Hopefully he found the rightful owner and was able to return it to them.
Once we had finally arrived at Rainbow’s End we raced through the doors as soon as we got our tickets. If anyone doesn’t know what Rainbow’s End is, well it is a huge theme park located in Auckland, New Zealand. Now as I was saying, the first ride we went on was the Motion Master which I think was really cool. The 3D movie was Spongebob Squarepants which we all enjoyed.
Next we went on the Rollercoaster. That ride was just so wild I can’t even explain what it was like! Then we went on the Power Surge which was really scary. It was just unbelievable. We went flying everywhere!
After going on a few more rides we finally got to go on the Fear Fall. That was shocking. I really don’t know what to say about it. We slowly went up. It was like we could see the entire city of Auckland. My heart was beating as fast as a cheetah could run. We waited. All of a sudden…………………………..
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
We had a huge fall. For a second there I couldn’t catch my breath. I didn’t know what to do. All I could think of was that this was going to be the end of the world for me. I actually couldn’t breathe! Although I have to say it was a great ride! Probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for some people. On the way down I thought it would never end, but just then the ride quickly stopped. I was stunned. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
Overall my favourite rides would have to be the Log Flume and definitely the Fear Fall. The Pirate Ship was also alright I guess. I encourage anyone to take up the opportunity to go to Rainbow’s End if it ever arises. Believe me. You will have lots of fun because I sure did!
I would just like to thank Miss Green and Mrs Ellis very much for taking us on this trip. I would also like to give out a huge thank you to Mr McCabe for taking us there. Thank you very much! You are guys are great!

Obama or McCain? November 8, 2008
Posted by naveens3 in Uncategorized.1 comment so far
A few days ago Obama and McCain were both fighting against each other to become president of The United States. Obama won by a HUGE amount of votes that was so shocking it blew everyone away. I wanted Obama to win right from the start and thankfully he did! I have cousins in America who are also very pleased that Obama won. There has been a lot of talk going round about Obama and McCain about who will win and who won’t. Well now we know. On the news they mentioned that Obama has already begun to name some people that will be a part of the government. They also mentioned that Obama will officially be the president of The United States in January when he will also be moving into the Whitehouse. In celebration of his victory he bought his two young girls a little puppy and I’m not sure about what he bought his wife. But whatever he gave his family I am sure that they are very pleased. Another person that I know of who is extremely proud of Obama is his Grandmother who lives in a small village somewhere around Kenya. She was specially picked up from there to be interviewed by news reporters and to see her grandson. I am sure that Obama is very happy with his success and so is America.
I know that one election I am definitely looking forward to is today. Today the decision will be made if Helen Clark remains Prime Minister of New Zealand or if John Key will takeover her job. Most people I hear say that they think National will win. I personally think that Labour hasn’t done anything majorly wrong. I mean there is no change in the law or the way the government runs etc. It’s just that she didn’t sue Winston Peters about the money he received. So there is absolutely no change in her. Some people say that it is time for a new government. They say that they are now sick of Helen Clark. But anyway whatever the outcome I hope everyone is pleased with it.
Terrifying Tornado Hits November 1, 2008

On October the 17th a terrifying tornado hit the small town of Cambridge destroying many houses. Many trees and power lines fell over due to this mini tornado, and about 100 roofs flew off houses. Resident Tony Mills says that the Tornado struck his house but his neighbours were completely tornado hit free. One house was so badly damaged that it had to be bulldozed. It has been said that the tornado was hit early at 3 in the morning and it made its way through the town like a thief in the night. The Council says that the approximate cost for all the damage been done would be hundreds and thousands of dollars. Lots of people from Hamilton even came down to help clean up the mess made by the tornado. Other than the damage done to houses, trees and power lines no one else was hurt, so that was good.
My Term 4 Goals November 1, 2008
Posted by naveens3 in Uncategorized.add a comment
This term there are a number of things that I would like to achieve before I leave Intermediate.
Firstly I would like to make sure that I hand all my work in on time.
~ I can do this by using up all my spare time as much as possible and by concentrating on all my work.
I would like to improve in my Maths.
~ I can do this by trying my hardest to do my best in Statistics.
I would like to improve in my English
~ I can do this by using more interesting words and trying to read more books.
I would like to do better than I did last year in Athletics especially in High Jump.
~ I can do this by keeping a positive attitude towards all activities in Athletics and other PE. I won’t give up and I will keep persevearing until I get it right.
I woud like to do well in my Inquiry.
~ I can do this by co-operating with my group and using up all the time that I am given effectively.
I would like to be really good at public speaking byt the end of this year.
~ I can do this with the help of my peers especially Mr McCabe who always gives me advice on what I need to improve on. Speaking at Monday morning assemblies, Student Assemblies on a Thursday and any other events can also help me improve on my public speaking.
I hope that I am able to achieve all of these goals by the end of this term. If I do that would be great! I would also like to make the most of my time left here at Te Awamutu Intermediate as I am off to College next year. So this is my last term at Intermediate. Once again I really hope that I achieve my goals for Term 4.
A trip to the farm October 8, 2008

Last Saturday my little brother and I went down to our uncle’s farm in Otrohonga, with the rest of my mum’s side of the family. It felt weird for me and my little brother because this was our first time ever staying on a farm. The first thing that I noticed when I got there was it was very quiet there and there wasn’t much for us to do. Luckily my cousin had bought his soccer ball so we started playing with it down the far end of the driveway. That was all we had to do except for playing cards. But we used those for Scum which we played a lot. On the first day we didn’t do much except for having a rest especially my brother and I because we had to drive to Hamilton first and then back to Te Awamutu, and from then on to Otrohonga. Gosh it was tiring! The next day my Uncle Jeff decided that we should go hunting for some Turkey. The rest of us all thought that we wouldn’t catch anything but we went anyway. To our surprise we did! What happened was my uncle grabbed a golf club and whacked the turkey on its neck before it could fly away. The next thing you know my grandpa was covered in some blood which wasn’t a good site. Later that evening my other uncle began to cry because he felt sad for the turkey and his family, and he didn’t want to see him die. My aunty tried to cheer him up but it didn’t work. Still, we all felt sad for killing the turkey. That night we went home and had roast turkey for dinner, and my Uncle Jeff cooked it. It was quite nice although my uncle didn’t eat it nor did my little brother. On the third day we all went for a walk down to the lake. It was so beautiful. There were huge boulders there and lots of sand. When we got back home we all had a game of Volleyball which was fun. In the end it was my little brother, my two cousins, my aunty and I that won. Afterwards all the adults went inside and my little brother, two cousins and I stayed out and had a friendly game of soccer. We weren’t really counting the goals but we figured that the score was reasonably the same. Finally on the second to last day we went to the Waitomo Caves. This time my mum and dad also came along. I’ve already been there lots of times so there wasn’t really anything new for me, but the rest of the members in my family who hadn’t been, enjoyed it as well as the others and me. Later we all sat down together and had Fish ‘n’ Chips for lunch. Some of us wanted Subway so we went and bought that too. We all had a fun day and definitely needed some rest when we got home. The next day we were all prepared to go back home for the rest of the holidays. Overall I had a great time on the farm and so did my little brother. It sure went better than we we expected.
What a win TAI! September 14, 2008

In week six at my school we had a sporting exchange with Belmont Intermediate. Belmont is where our school sends about 80 students upto Auckland and they send about 80 students to us. Then the next day we take part in a range of sports. In the end which ever school wins the most amount of sports wins. This year it went great! It turned out that we won by quite a lot of points! We lost Debating and one or two other things which was a shame but in the end we won the most amount of sports, so for the first time we got presented the new shield, and it’s huge! While we were sitting in Assembly, as we heard the results, Mr McCabe asked the Head Students to come up onto the stage but I was the only one there so I got presented the shield for our school. It felt really great when I got up there and held the shield up in front of our whole school even though I was nervous.
Last year both Intermediates had a draw but I’m not sure about who won the year before last year. Anyway I hope we win next year as well. And the exchange went really great this year. Well done to everyone who participated. I hope you had a good time!

Last Friday I had a day off school because it was Teachers Only Day, so I decided to go to Hamilton and visit my old Primary School, Deanwell Primary School. I hadn”t been there for four years! And I wondered if everyone looked the same and if my old teachers would be able to recognise me or not. To my surprise they did! But Mrs Chubb forgot my name, although she remembered every other little detail about me. My other teacher Mrs Spackman was away on a course and wasn’t going to be back until the end of the Term 3 holidays. So I stayed in Mrs Chubb’s class for a while and we talked lots. She asked me a lot of questions! Later I found out that they were having Deanwell Idol on that day so I watched for a little while before I came back home. They had some really good singers alright. There is one thing for sure. My old principal Mr Poland has changed a lot especially his voice! The front of the school hasn’t changed much but the rest has. The classrooms and the playground would probably have to be two of the most changed things in the school since I was there. Not to forget, when I entered the hall it looked different and really, really small. Maybe because I am now used to our school hall at Te Awamutu Intermediate. I really enjoyed my time there and I hope that I can visit again some day. I could tell that the teachers were really surprised and happy to see me. So was I. Overall I had a great day and talked lots!
